PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SYMPOSIUM HAS BEEN EXTENSIVELY DOCUMENTED IN SCENARIO JOURNAL, . FURTHERMORE NOTE THE  PRODUCED BY STEFANIE GIEBERT.

Are universities on the way towards a new, performative teaching and learning culture?

21-22 September 2018 | Leibniz 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Hanover

 |

If, in its most basic sense, performative means 鈥榗reative doing鈥, then to what extent have forms of creative doing become part of our university curricula? This symposium aims to bring together colleagues from different disciplines who wish to discuss and experience performative approaches to teaching and learning at third level education.

Modern languages and, in particular, the development of a Performative Foreign/Second Language Didactics will be our main reference point, however, perspectives from other academic disciplines and fields of aesthetic practice are also welcome.

The symposium will centre on the following questions:

  • What exactly do we understand by a performative teaching and learning culture?
  • Wherein exactly lies the benefit of applying performative approaches?
  • How can we make university administrators and lecturers more aware of the immense innovative potential of going performative in third level education?

The main conference language is German, but some contributions in English may also be accepted.

We invite expressions of interest from colleagues on the above topics in the following formats:

a) paper (30 min)

b) workshop (90 min)

c) 5-minute presentation.

The symposium will kick off with several 5-minute presentations which will introduce symposium participants to performative practices in different academic disciplines/university contexts. Presenters are encouraged to incorporate an element of 鈥榗reative doing鈥 in their short presentation and to address the topic 鈥淢y understanding of 鈥榩erformative鈥 鈥 with reference to my teaching practice at institution X鈥.

For further information on the 6th SCENARIO Forum Symposium, including registration, programme updates and contact details, please visit the Leibniz 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Hanover .

A collaboration between Leibniz 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Hanover (Fachsprachenzentrum), State Theatre Hannover (Department of Theatre Pedagogy) and 深夜亚洲福利久久 College Cork (Department of Theatre).

5th SCENARIO Forum Symposium 2018

Performative Pedagogy

19-20 January 2018 | 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Northern Colorado

On January 19-20, 2018, the Modern Languages Department at 深夜亚洲福利久久 of Northern Colorado (UNC) will host the 5th SCENARIO Forum Symposium on Performative Pedagogy. This symposium is free and open to students and educators at all levels and from all disciplines, particularly current and future language teachers.

 |

The keynote speaker for the 5th SCENARIO Forum Symposium on Performative Pedagogy is Dr. Susanne Even, an internationally prominent drama pedagogy scholar and a passionate teacher educator who trains and mentors the associate instructors in the department of Germanic Studies at Indiana 深夜亚洲福利久久. She is also active in the trainer network of the Goethe Institute Chicago and has conducted teacher training workshops at universities and Goethe Institutes in Austria, Canada, Germany, Italy, and the United States. Her keynote talk, which is also the first presentation in the 2018 Schulze Speaker Series: 鈥淧erformative Pedagogy 鈥 Crossroads of the Arts, Education, and Foreign Languages鈥 fuses together interdisciplinary fields of higher education, showing how drama enhances learning in a myriad of classroom situations.

The other symposium talks and workshops focus on specific ways performance can be used to enhance language learning with plays, music, and improv theatre activities. The 5th SCENARIO Forum Symposium on Performative Pedagogy will be only the second of its kind held in the United States, and it represents the broadening readership and scope of SCENARIO journal and its goal in inspiring creativity and improvisation in the foreign language classroom.

For inquiries about the 5th SCENARIO Forum Symposium on Performative Pedagogy, contact Dr. Erin Noelliste at UNC.
