SEFS Induction Process
The College of SEFS recognises the importance of an effective induction for employees into the ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã. Joining a new organisation can be both interesting and challenging and it can take time to settle in and find your way around. The Head of School/Unit has responsibility for managing and coordinating local induction. Local induction refers to the School and role specific induction process that takes place when an employee joins the ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã. This process equips the staff member with the necessary information to participate fully in their new role.
The induction process is an important way of ensuring that the new staff member and the school/unit derive real benefit from their appointment. The aim is to enable the staff member to perform to their full potential as soon as possible.
A successful programme will involve a team approach and will give the new staff member the opportunity to meet their colleagues and to gain an understanding of the role of every member of the team. To support and guide managers through this process a SEFS Local Induction Checklist is available.
Additional Information on orientation for New Starters can be found on the UCC People and Culture website
SEFS Buddy Scheme
Having a ‘Buddy’ at work can make a huge difference to the speed at which new staff are able to settle into their role, the College and the ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã as a whole. The 'Buddy Scheme' is not designed to replace the induction process, but to complement it at School and College level. Just knowing there is someone there to listen who is genuinely interested in helping, can make new staff members feel supported. We recommend offering a Buddy to any new starters within your team.
If you wish to sign up to be a ‘Buddy’ and support a new staff member joining the College of SEFS email collegeoffice@sefs.ucc.ie for more details with 'Buddy Scheme' in the subject line.
Family Leave and Maternity Leave
Ensuring your maternity leave is effectively planned and supported requires a number of activities to be undertaken. The checklists below aim to support and guide employees and line managers during the maternity leave process. It is recommended that you arrange a meeting with your manager to run through each step and to plan accordingly.
