The winners of the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Awards for 2023 were announced at the Research Summit, a joint Summit hosted by SFI and the Irish Research Council (IRC), with Professor Paul Ross named as Researcher of the Year.

Ireland’s first ‘Science Studio’ has opened in the Kane Science Building, UCC offering a stunning new educational resource for students, teachers, industry and beyond.

13 UCC researchers are featured in the Highly Cited Researchers 2023 list from Clarivate. The annual list features the researchers in the top 1% of the Web of Science citation index and recognises pioneers in their field whose citation records position them in the very highest strata of research influence and impact.

The first students to graduate from UCC’s Bachelor of Agricultural Science degree were conferred on 10 November with a special awards ceremony held to congratulate exceptional students.

Leading figures from international development, business, academia, and the media will convene for a major new climate conference at UCC which commences on the eve of the COP28 global climate negotiations.

Science at the Marina Market and a food demonstration by Chef Catherine Fulvio are among the community events that ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork (UCC) researchers have organised for Science Week which runs from November 12-19th. 

Four post-doctoral researchers in UCC have received a total of €1.725 million in funding to investigate and find solutions for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and AHSS (Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences) related challenges under the SFI-IRC Pathway programme.

All areas aligned with UCC's College of Science, Engineering and Food Science improved in the Times Higher Education (THE) Subject Rankings, published in October 2023. Engineering and Technology improved by 200 places.

Staff from the College of Science Engineering and Food Science were among the UCC team who completed a South Asia mission that began by attending the Education in Ireland India Roadshow. Five outreach and recruitment events were held across major cities: Delhi, Pune, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Chennai with over 2,500 students attending the entire roadshow.
