Launch of €1.6M BAUHAUS Goes North Project
The Cork Centre for Architectural Education (CCAE) and UCC recently celebrated the launch of the BAUHAUS Goes North Project.
This ambitious initiative, funded by a €754,841 grant from Interreg NPA and an additional €406,453 from partners, aligns with the New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative. The project emphasises sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusion to shape the future of design and development.
The two-day launch event at CCAE welcomed representatives from six European partner organisations and was officially opened by Cllr. Dan Boyle, Lord Mayor of Cork. Dr. Jason O’Shaughnessy, Principal Investigator and Interim Director of CCAE, and Project Manager Jose Ospina hosted the event, marking the start of a transformative collaboration for sustainable and inclusive architectural innovation in Northern Europe.
The BAUHAUS Goes North project aims to amplify the NEB principle that architecture is part of natural and social systems, promoting a human-centered and innovative approach to sustainable development. It seeks to transition to a circular and resource-efficient economy in the Northern Periphery and Arctic (NPA) Region through participatory, inclusive, and sustainable design practices. Key outputs include a Co-Design Playbook, an Online Catalogue of Best Practices, and four Pilot Projects resulting in Jointly Developed Solutions.
Led by UCC, the initiative unites an international consortium of partners, including Oulu ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã of Applied Science (Finland), The Arctic ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã of Norway and the City of Bodø (Norway), ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã of Umea (Sweden), Green Building Council of Iceland, and Cork County Council (Ireland). Together, they aim to foster a circular, resource-efficient economy across the NPA Region.
