ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã

Ornithologist and wildlife sound-recordist Seán Ronayne was among those honoured at the ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork (UCC) Alumni Achievement Awards. Seán graduated from UCC in 2009 with a Bachelor in Zoology and later returned to complete master’s degrees in Marine Biology and Ecological Assessment.

Analysing the effect of climate change on Ireland’s forestry carbon stores and exploring the reuse of municipal wastewater to irrigate grassland in Ireland are amongst the ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork (UCC) projects to receive a combined €1m in funding under the annual Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Research Call.

Professor Emanuel Popovici has been announced as the new Qualcomm Professor in Digital Electronics and Embedded Systems — a landmark appointment that strengthens the long-standing collaboration between ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork (UCC) and Qualcomm.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science, celebrated annually on 11 February, highlights ongoing global efforts to achieve full and equal access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education and careers.

Teams of secondary school students from across Munster gathered at ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork (UCC) on 24 January, to compete in the regional finals of the FIRST® LEGO® League, a global STEM challenge celebrating innovation, creativity, and teamwork.

The  project, an ambitious initiative dedicated to transforming waste heat into clean, usable power, has reached a significant milestone as it concludes its research phase, which ran from June 2021 to November 2025.

The College of Science, Engineering and Food Science (SEFS) hosted an Early Career Funding Workshop on 23 January 2026, bringing together PhD researchers and postdoctoral fellows from across the College and the Tyndall National Institute.

PEACE-Air (Partnership for Evidence and Action on Clean Air) is an all-island initiative working to improve air quality and protect public health across Ireland and Northern Ireland through evidence-based policy, collaboration and innovation. 

Climate change has a wide range of effects on wildlife. It affects seasonal migration, reproduction times, body size and mass, and disrupts ecological processes, thereby posing challenges for the populations of some species.
