Inter-varsity Cross Country Champions
UCC athletics had 40 athletes compete in the Inter-varsity Cross Country Championships in Tymon Park, Dublin on Saturday. It was a very successful day for the club with both the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 Team securing silver medals in their respective races.
The women鈥檚 5km race seen great teamwork with our first 3 women, Lucy O Flynn, Emma Fitzpatrick and Hannah Smith crossing the line in 8th 9th and 10th with Avril Cashman finishing 14th to round out the scoring team of 4.
In the men鈥檚 8km race our scoring 6 consisted of great performances from Eoghan O鈥機onnor (11th), Quinn Hoisington (14th), Robert Troy (15th), Ben Leen Smith (18th), Donnchadh Mac Aodha (30th) and Liam Cotter (32nd).
The mixed relay team comprised of Eoin Quirke, Sarah Butler, Avril Cashman and Conor Flaherty finished 4th with the majority of the team having raced in the previous races that day.
UCC also secured the overall trophy, the badger. This is the first time UCC has won this trophy since 1997 so it is a huge achievement for all our athletes who competed and of course, coach Donie Walsh and all respective coaches involved with our athletes.
