UCC Sailing Club Announces New Boats
UCC Sailing had a big problem. Our fleet was almost 15 years old, needing constant maintenance. A few more years and the club wouldn鈥檛 be able to train for intervarsity events, or even host club sessions.
So when I became captain in my final year, I decided the club needed a new fleet of boats, and I wouldn鈥檛 quit before we got them.
A few weeks ago, I graduated, but after hundreds of phone calls, emails and meetings with , , the Clubs Executive, UCC procurement, and a myriad of other stakeholders, yesterday, on a miserable rainy Tuesday in November, the fleet arrived, and the club is ready to set sail on a new era.
Getting this fleet was not easy. I started working on the project in May 2024, and it took over 500 days to get these boats from a dream in my head to a boatyard in Crosshaven. I am incredibly proud that this work means a generation of UCC sailors can enjoy the experiences that shaped my time in university.
I鈥檇 like to give a massive thank you to from the UCC Sport department for putting up with me, and for helping get these boats across the line.
I鈥檇 also like to thank the other members of the UCC sailing committee for their help. A particular thanks to .
Lastly, thanks to my family for dealing with me over the past year throughout the entire process.
