Ireland鈥檚 State of the Environment Report 2024 - Chapter 12 - Environment and Energy
Prof Brian 脫 Gallach贸ir contributed to Chapter 12 of the EPA's State of the Environment Report 2024 - Environment and Energy.
Congratulations to on their excellent State of the Environment Report 2024.
This 4 yearly evaluation provides
1) thematic assessments, focusing on trends, challenges and actions for air, climate change, noise, water, marine, nature, land use and soil.
2) detailed integrated assessments of key economic sectors: transport, energy, agriculture, industry and the circular economy and of the interactions between human health and the environment.
3) an in-depth assessment of Ireland's performance in the area of environmental policy implementation and includes an Environmental Scorecard for Ireland across five key environmental themes: Climate, Air Quality, Nature, Water and Waste.

I was delighted to contribute on Chapter 12 Environment and Energy (available here ).
The Energy key chapter messages focus on the need to accelerate onshore and offshore wind and solar power, the benefits of using electricity in heat and transport alongside the risks of data centre demand growth, the essential role of electricity grid infrastructure and the need for zero emissions fuels and negative emissions technologies.
