Programme 1
General English is listed on the Interim List of Eligible Programmes
General English classes develop your accuracy and fluency with an emphasis on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation, as well as the development of reading, writing, speaking and listening. We also offer a Communicative Focus Class (CFC) each week which is based on topics relating to Irish life and culture.

Who is this course for?
Full-time courses in General English are for all levels from Elementary (A2) to Proficiency (C1+). The General English courses aim at developing students' overall ability to communicate confidently in English. Students also prepare for international exams such as IELTS and Cambridge English.
Learning outcomes
Helping students develop their English speaking, listening, reading, writing and communication skills in a practical and focused manner to achieve their English language targets.

There will be no exit exam requirement for this course when taken during the summer. However, all students will receive a Certificate on completion of the summer course. |

Transfer to the Academic English programme if preferred and if of a suitable level, students may also continue their programme into the new academic year from the summer (flexible finish dates). |

IT requirements to join our courses
All students are required to bring to class a fully-charged laptop (with audio and video) and headphones to ensure full participation and access to course materials and a more valuable student experience. A reliable internet connection is required (this is provided by UCC for on-campus students). You should download Microsoft Teams to your laptop before starting your course. UCC recommends the use of Chrome browser for best interaction with all its applications. Please note that a laptop is a device that is suitable for study purposes and students who use another device such as a tablet will not be able to access some functions. A smartphone is not considered to be a suitable device for study purposes.
