PLRG representatives attend Joint Committee on Health to discuss the National Maternity Strategy

and attended a meeting of the Joint Committee on Health in Leinster House on 18 February which considered issues relating to the National Maternity Strategy 2016-2026, including progress in its implementation. (represented by Mairie Cregan, co-founder, and Anne-Marie Farrell) and the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (represented by Tony Fitzpatrick, Director of Professional Services, and Aisling Dixon, Advanced Midwife Practitioner) also provided evidence to the Committee during the session.

Niamh Howard-Jones was recently appointed Candidate Advanced Midwife Practitioner - Early Pregnancy Loss/Miscarriage Services at Cork ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã Maternity Hospital (CUMH). This new role – currently one of several pilot roles across the country, funded by the National Women and Infants Health Programme – involves providing specialised care and support to women and their partners during and after early pregnancy loss.

Two new resources to help create more compassionate workplaces for people who experience pregnancy loss have been launched at an event hosted by the Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr Fergal Dennehy, in City Hall on Thursday. The resources, developed by the Pregnancy Loss Research Group at ÉîÒ¹ÑÇÖÞ¸£Àû¾Ã¾Ã College Cork (UCC), include a toolkit for employers and employees, and a book that shines a light on the experiences of pregnancy loss at work.
