1.3 Matter in bulk

Two important ideas arise in this section. Firstly there is the fundamental idea of a model, a concept that is used throughout all of science, and, in particular, the distinction between macroscopic and microscopic models. Secondly, there is the constraint placed on all scientific models and theories by Occam's razor (read from the website). It is precisely this constraint that distinguishes real science from pseudoscientific ideas.

You only need to have an idae of the essential at this stage but, if you would like to know more about matter in bulk than is provided in this short section, you may wish look at Wikipedia's entry on .

Matter in bulk will come up again in Chapters 10, 11, 25 and 26.
