Chapter 21 Maxwell’s equations; electromagnetic radiation

The fundamental laws of electrodynamics developed over Chapters 17 to 20 are drawn together here and, together with an important generalisatin of Amp猫re's law, can be summarised in four equations known as Maxwell's Equations.  A consequence of that generalisation is that Maxwell's equations explain why accelerating electric charges give rise to electromagnetic radiation. Electromagneic radiation is shown to transmit energy, momentum and angular momentum which can be connected directly to the phonon model encountered in earlier in quantum mechanics (Sectionm 14.7).
