13.15 Other waveforms: Fourier analysis

There are many excellent interactive simulations of Fourier analysis on the internet which you may use to help you understand how different waveforms may be built up from various superpositions of sine and cosine functions.

To begin, run the PhET interactive simulation . There is a lot more to this package than in other PhET simulations, so be prepared to spend some time familiarising yourself with it. Use the (rather limited) Help! features as required.

The ActivPhysics OnLine simulation provides very good insight on how wave packets are formed.

Another useful simulation is Paul Falstad's .
