Chapter 23 Geometrical optics

In certain circumstances the energy transmitted in light waves can be considered to be carried in straight lines (the 'ray model').   This model is particularly useful in describing the behavior of light on striking a reflecting surface or on passing between two diffenent transparent media.  In particular, mirrors and lenses can be used to form clear images of illuminated sources; how and where such images are formed is explained for a range of different cases.  The functioning of some important optical instruments, such as telescopes and microscopes, is explained.

The final section in the chapter discusses the dispersion (breaking into different coulous) of light.
