27.5 alpha-, beta- and gamma-decay

伪-, 尾- and 纬-decay are reviewed in a Wikipedia article on .

The PhET simulation may be used to study alpha decay from a Polonium nucleus. The relation between random decay times and half life may be studied.
In the applet from KCVS, radioactive decay is illustrated using a simulated Geiger counter. A database of radioactive elements (sorted as 伪-, 尾- and 纬-emitters) provides sample data. Decay may be plotted and a decay curve fitted to determine the half-life of the element.

The interactive exercise from ActivPhysics Online, which was used to determine half-lives in the previous section (27.4), may be revisited to determine decay processes.

Similarly the KCVS applet , which was used to estimate nuclear binding energies in Section 27.3, may also be used to identify decay processes.
