14.15 The infinite square potential well

漏2004 Pearson Education, Inc., publishing as Addison Wesley. All rights reserved. The ActivPhysics OnLine interactive exercise simulates the infinite potential well.

You can vary the width of the well (a in Understanding Physics), denoted by L in the simulation, and observe the way the wavefunctions [唯(x)] or the magnitude of the wavefunctions [|唯(x)|2] change in the case of the ground state (E1) and the first four excited states.
You can also change the mass of the particle trapped in the well and observe how this effects the wavefunctions and the energy levels.
The Paul Falstad interactive exercise provides a similar exercise (but also has many more features and allows the study of more complicated quantum systems than needed here).

Select Set-up: Infinite well and Mouse = Set Eigenstate. Again you can change Particle Mass and Well Width.

Use the mouse to hover over or click on any one of the energy levels to show the corresponding wavefunction. This software also gives an indication of the time evolution of the system.
