13.7 Interference of waves passing through openings: diffraction

The PhET simulation can be used again to support the understanding of the material covered in this section.

Run each of the wave examples (Water, Sound and Light) in turn using just a single source. In this case, however, include a barrier — first just One Slit and then Two Slits. Vary the Slit Width and, in the case of two slits, the Slit Separation.

Observe what happens as you change Amplitude and Frequency/Wavelength. In particular, in the case of Light, study the Intensity Graph (click Show Screen) and the Electric Field plot (click Show Graph).
