| The PhET interactive simulation on allows for display of the distributions of the speeds and kinetic energies of the molecules in an ideal gas. Run the simulation and click the relevant button to keep the volume constant. Put some hundreds of molecules of (say) the Light Species in the container. Check Species information and Energy histograms under the Measurement Tools menu. Observe how the histograms and the average speed changes as you add and remove heat from the ststem. Add some of the Heavy Species molecules and observe any changes to the histograms and average speeds. |
