Chapter 4 Motion in two and three dimensions

Newton's second law was applied in Chapter 3 to the motion of bodies moving in one dimension.  In this chapter the laws of motion are extended to two and three diumensions.  To deal with situations in more than one dimension, certain physical quantities can be represented by vectors.  The basic rules of vector algebra a summarised in mathematical asides (grey background). A simple model which enables systems involving frictional forces to be analysed is presented.
